Dime Bank Presents a $3,000 Grant to United Community & Family Services

News Release - December 29, 2008

(Norwich, CT) - Dime Bank Foundation recently presented a $3,000 grant to United Community & Family Services (UCFS) to help the organization develop information and training seminars for caregivers. This educational program will help caregivers to balance their care role of elderly parents while continuing to work and finding respite time for themselves.

"Our new caregiver program is a joint effort between UCFS' Eldercare and Employee Assistance Programs," said Elsa Huertas, director of Center for Work and Family/EAP. "In today's society, many families are working, raising children, and taking care of elderly parents. Our program has been designed to offer support to the caregiver by providing various seminars and workshops. We also offer adult daycare as an option if an elderly parent needs some supervision, but isn't ready for a skilled nursing facility. We are looking forward to offering our new caregiver program to the community."

The goal of United Community & Family Services' training seminars is to provide information on the following topics: services and options for care; coping with guilt; role reversal; caring for an older adult; stress management; and reducing absenteeism in the workplace related to care giving.
