Dime Bank Foundation Presents a $3,000 Grant to Operation Fuel

News Release - December 19, 2008

(Norwich, CT) - Dime Bank Foundation recently presented a $3,000 grant to Operation Fuel. Operation Fuel is an organization that promotes energy assistance to those who earn low incomes. With skyrocketing fuel prices, individuals and families who cannot pay their heat or utility bills become desperate, and some are forced to go to shelters. Dime's grant will help Operation Fuel to continue its mission to partner with communities, businesses, government and individuals to ensure that people in need have access to year-round energy assistance.

"At Operation Fuel, we are so fortunate to have the support of Dime Bank," said Pat Rice, executive director. "Each year, we're able to help so many deserving people because of generous gifts from local businesses. We recently helped a senior citizen who despite making monthly payments on her own, still had a $1,000 balance for her home heating fuel. With our 'Clean Slate' program, we were able to pay her balance, so she could enter the new heating season without debt."

With its network of 66 Connecticut fuel banks, Operation Fuel provides emergency energy assistance to elderly, disabled, and low income, working individuals and families who are unable to pay energy costs and are not eligible for or have exhausted their government energy assistance benefits. Many recipients are forced to choose between buying food and paying their utility bills.
